Self-sufficient Energy Supply

Why do high-voltage lines have to be built right across the country? Because under current concepts we build and operate large power generators, and from them the power is sent out over long distances. Why don’t we generate the energy that is needed in a manageable regional area within this same region? That is, using micro grids? Whole cities and regions can already build autonomous supply systems today using a combination of different renewable energy sources and power storage systems. Combining these micro grids results in a much more stable grid interconnection than using large generators and high-voltage lines, as is done today. If one leg of a centipede is not functioning, it keep on moving unhindered down its path. If a four-legged animal has an injured leg, it begins to limp.
